Raised Panel Wainscoting and Grand Arch in Foyer

Raised Panel Wainscot with Grand Arch

This is the difference that well designed woodwork can make in a home. A large archway with no trim on it looks bare and sterile. But with nicely proportioned panelwork on the walls and arch it is Grand.

The wainscot adds a strong horizontal line which makes the space look larger. It also offers a lot of visual stimulation that engages a person when they enter the space. It brings a sense of fullness and satisfaction. This wainscot has a raised panel set into a 3/4″ thick frame, also the panel is trimmed into the frame with a generously sized moulding. On the top of the wainscot is a 2″ wide sill with an ogee shaped edge, and beneath it a 2″ apron moulding.

Lastly is a closeup of the trim which wraps the doors. It is 1″ thick and 3-1/2″ wide, It is an historic pattern, and has crisp, yet delicate detail.
